In 2010, following a documented poaching episode of a Bonelli’s eagle’s nest and the resulting awareness of the extent of this phenomenon, a group of keen researchers of Sicilian raptors decided to organize a series of actions to contrast the illegal withdrawal of chicks and in particular those from Bonelli’s eagle, Egyptian vulture and Lanner falcon nests. The “Coordinamento Tutela Rapaci Sicilia” was therefore established; it was made up by volunteers coming from the following Associations: EBN ITALIA, Fondo Siciliano per la Natura, LIPU, MAN, WWF. In 2014 the same volunteers decided to organize an executive work-group named “Gruppo Tutela Rapaci”.
